The only time "worry" about it is if...

a) The dealer regularly plays in the same games I do.

b) Is "best buds" with someone I regularly play.

The dealer was flirting with you. Make eye contact and smile after she looks at your folded cards. Make conversation. If you're single, SIIHP .

I see 3 problems with the dealer doing this.

1. They're doing something they're not being paid for and distracted from the game.

2. They run the risk of exposing someone's hand to other players, especially since they have to hold the stub upright.

3. In many cases, dealers are allowed to play in the games they deal. A dealer who repeatedly looks at a player's hand is getting information about how that person plays that they should not be getting.

In short, while it's probably not against any rules, I guarantee you the floorperson would tell the dealer to stop if he/she was notified that it was a problem.... if that floorperson was worth a crap anyway.

My bad dealing peaking experience.

Loose 10/20 game. I have been running cold and pretty much have folded every hand for about 3 orbits.

I get JTo in mid position. Fold. Dealer picks up my cards, looks, and says "Man, you are Tight! You are about the tightest player I've seen here." I just laughed, and said "Thanks".

Two hands later, I get AA UTG. I raise preflop. Get 5 callers. Asked the dealer if the entire table was deaf AND dumb.

Sweating cards isn't THAT uncommon, and I generally don't care when it's done to me provided the dealer doesn't react or something. A lot of players do mind though, and if they see it they'll get upset, so no point in rocking the boat. Muck them and get to the shuffle.

Dealers don't play in their own houses here, but out west they do and that's even more reason not to sweat.

Here's a list of things I consider mistakes:
- Not giving absent/missed blinds buttons
- Not noticing new players
- Losing track of action/not paying attention multiple times
- Multiple misdeals / exposed cards...

[/ QUOTE ]

You mean when a dealer fails to welcome a new player to the game, you have a problem with that? And will mark down this demerit, and scale back tipping, over this? Really?

This was my impression, as well.

I might be putting words into someone else's mouth but I am going to assume he meant it more along the lines of "not noticing new player needs to post" than not welcoming the new players...

Right. This was something specific I saw happen a few times. The leaving dealer gives the summary of the table ("there's a new player in seat 5") and the new dealer doesn't listen. They then deal the player cards even though that player hasn't posted. Sure its pretty minor, but its also pretty important.

How about "Can you please not look at my cards?"
