Default $50+r AK rivers trips + decision

Villain has pretty bad stats, (40/24/1.65), but I haven't noticed him make any huge errors. Initially I bet the river thinking I could confidently fold to a raise. Then, I thought that most hands that beat me raise pf (AJ, AT, KQ, TT/JJ/AA). However, he could be overplaying Ax. River: check/call, bet/call, check raise, or bet/fold???

I'm going to say to bet the flop. However, is this where we check because we don't want a worse hand to fold?

He could be doing this with KK or QQ too since when you checked the flop, it could have made him think that you didn't have an ace. Then, when you bet the Jack, he could be thinking you have a Jack and his KK or QQ are still good.

I'm going to call here and see what he has, but I'm a newb so I could be wrong.

I'd be fairly astonished if you have the best hand here, on a three flush, paired board. Out of SB, I lead the flop too. I think he'll call a flop lead and then give up but won't bluff a SB raiser with the stuff you're trying to keep on the hook.

Couple comments:

1) "villain has pretty bad stats" - if those stats are just based on the first hour of a rebuy they mean almost nothing.

2) Why did you check that flop? I bet flop and turn.

3) As played, you put yourself in a crappy position. You are ahead of AQ, A9- (except for A5) and any bluff. You are behind any boat, flush, or QK. In the end you are getting close to 2:1 so you need to determine whether you are ahead more than 1 in 3 times against this opp. If so, call. If not, fold.

Flop check is fine some % of the time. In fact, I'd say it's very good against the right opponent.

River is a pretty clear fold.

I don't hate the check flop against a lot of players, but I like a bigger turn bet if you do check the flop, esp given how much drawier the board just got. Barring that, I like shaun's lead flop, c/r turn line.

I rarely check the flop, but felt it was fine against an opponent who was very likely to stab at an Ace hi flop.

Yes, it's OK to check some flops against certain opponents on relatively dry boards. Like in this instance. If you folded the river, you played this hand as well as you could have.
