Whenever someone does something for me that I could do myself, and does it as well or better than I would have done it (and mostly I'm a lazy bastard that just does enough to get by, so it isn't easy to beat), I tip.

This includes haircuts, hotel rooms being cleaned, pizzas delivered (which are usually delivered to my house quicker than the time they give me on the phone, because I tip about 10-15% usually), luggage carried, yada yada.

I always tip at restaurants 10%, if they were a pretty good waiter (I don't have high standards), hell if they come to check on our table once or refill my glass w/o asking its usually a 15-20% tip from me. But to the guy hailing taxi cabs in front of the MGM that are lined up anyway...go to hell. He practically pulled us out of the cab asking for a tip and wouldn't let the driver leave. The driver more less drove off with this guy halfway in and out. That driver got a better tip. btw. I recommend taking a cab the first day your in vegas. I always get the best info about whats going on from those guys. Its worth the extra money I spend.

I guess I am a cheap bastard. I'll tip most places where they make less then I do, but it makes me cringe tipping those who make more then me just doing their job (tips aside). Although sometimes I still do...ie: the poker table.

simple as this. if you don't want [censored] in your food or your soda to explode the minute you open it, tip your pizza guy. I was one for five years. Keep them happy and you won't get botulism. Just trust me on this.

You're a little cheap IMO but I have very much the same philosophy in that my tips have a wide range based on the service (as opposed to my parents who pretty much always tip the same). Totally agree on the hotel cab attendants too - go away, I have no use for you.
About a year ago I was asked if I wanted change for a $20 for a $15 haircut. I was stunned - never been back since even though I liked the haircut.

QFT....lol

no, you don't have to tip the UPS man, you can but you are not expected to.

Of course, food or water or pop is always nice, expecially if it is late at night.

Thanks benny.

I never know when to tip or not, especially after I tried to tip a hotel maid and two different coat check guys (one in a casino, one in an art gallery) in the past few months and all three of them refused my money. I've just kinda given up on it now.

Do you tip the guy/gal that takes your oder at Taco Bell? What about the guy that rotates your tires when you bring your car in? The cashier at the grocery store?

[/ QUOTE ]

Just stop it. If everyone was that cheap there wouldn't be any delivery guys cause they'd all work at Taco Bell & the grocery store. The tip discrepancy not withstanding I much preferred to work at CVS in college as opposed to driving to random houses I don't know to get a $2 tip every half hour.
Even if I agreed w/ you philosophically I don't know why you'd want to piss off people from whom you order food from semi-regularly.

[/ QUOTE ]

I think you are misunderstanding my post. I tip and I tip well and there are several people that can vouch for that on this forum.

My question was simply and specific. When I go to a place that has the tip already included in the bill, I will still tip additionally if the service was good (it does not have to be great even). My question was not about "me". It was a general question.. thus "If the place has a delivery fee, do you still tip as you have already paid for the service?" For me, the answer is typically yes, but just because I do, does not mean that it is customary. We also give our house keeper $250 for Christmas and our gardener guy the same. I doubt that is customary either.

Agreed. I'm pretty tempted to excise the tipping portion of this thread. Somebody get drunk and type incoherently.
