I looked it up for details but remember this because they played the Yankees in interleague play that year. Before that game, which the Yankees won, the Pirates were 30-31 and the Yankees were 30-32. I remember reading an opinion bit in the Post-Gazette making the point that the Pirates were .500 and the Yankees sub .500 at the time, a day or two before the game. Not sure if they've been .500 or more later in the year recently. That year they started poorly as expected, but then went on a nice run. So they were never over .500, they just touched .500 before falling back down. |
