IT certs are good for getting past the OCR programs that HR departments use to screen resumes - they will often help you get more interviews. If you're having problems in the actual interview, an IT cert with no experience won't help much.

Keep in mind that work experience is not the number one factor in deciding who gets hired. The biggest factor is whether or not the interviewer feels comfortable with you. Of course, they can't come out and say "you didn't appear confident when you interviewed, so i wasn't comfortable with you, and instead chose the hot chick." Instead, they come up with b.s. excuses like "Doesn't have enough SQL experience to be a graphic artist."

I'm going to recommend a completely different solution to your problem - learn how to make people like you. Read How to Make People Like You in 90 Seconds or Less by Nicholas Boothman. It will cost you about $15, and if you put it into practice, you'll be amazed at the results.
