How many hours do you need to play to know you can beat a game?
The subject says it all.
I've been playing live $1/$2 NHL for about 200 hours and I'm up $3000. How am I doing? Is it my good play or am I just getting lucky? Can I move up?

# of hands is the deciding factor, i'd say play until you have around 50k hands then have someone who knows enough about stats to give you your overall likelihood of being a winning player based on your current winrate.

All it would take to reach 50k hands is if I've played 25 hands an hour. I think that would be pretty accurate.

In a typical live $1/$2 game, I think it takes about 10 minutes to see whether or not I'm the best player at the table or, rarely, just the 2nd best.
Small-stakes live poker is really easy and from your results it sounds like you're doing just fine.

While a large statistical sample is important to determine your "true" winrate, a few hands can suffice to determine if you are +EV or not. You probably don't have to even play those hands yourself, just watch them. Take a look at the game you are thinking of moving up to and see if the players in it are making big mistakes, or at least most mistakes than you do and mistakes you can capitalise on. If you see them making mistakes that you think will make you better than them, by all means sit and play if your bankroll allows.

This is true of online too. [/ QUOTE ] Not even close. Live poker is approximately one million times more profitable than online poker. Online poker is extremely difficult comparatively but it's obviously still beatable. Some of the things I have seen at a live table have never occurred online
