El D, you can keep the interest as your fee.

Nevermind on this. Treesong emailed me saying that pretty much screws him over, because the interest is close to the amount he would win from the bet in the first place.

He is basically asking me to trust him, which I'm not willing to do unfortunately. So unless someone trustworthy will escrow this for free, the bet probably won't happen.

Do it for the forum El Diablo!

ah: Howard has the same bet as you, his 5k v. 40k that ZJ won't beat those 5 guys.

ZJ: I probably won't want to get into the middle of holding money, but if I did I wouldn't care about interest or fees. However, I think an acceptable solution would be to get a letter from Howard outlining the terms under which he would owe you 25k. Would that work for you? I'd be happy to review the language in something like that for you.

Update: Howard and I have been exchanging emails. El Diablo has vouched for his character and net worth.

I will be sending the 1k to Howard sometime in the next few days. He will put the 26k in an interest earning account. He will also write a formal letter detailing in what event the money will be turned over to me.

I'll have El Diablo read over the legal mumbo jumbo just to make sure it's all legit.

As of now, it looks like the bet is official.

Small stakes. A major part of this bet for me is just good ol' fashion fun.

Well, he's not really leveraging himself very much with this bet. If he loses, it is just $1K on top of really hundreds of thousands of tournament buyins. If he wins, it is an extra $25K bonus on top of the couple million in gross winnings that accompanies winning player of the year (Mizrachi won $2.3 mn in 2006, Men Nguyen just under $1 mn in 2005, Negreanu won $4.4 mn in 2004).

If the bet was for $100K at 25 to 1, then he'd be leveraging himself.

Maybe this whole "throwing in the towel" is an elaborate ruse to set up a hundred of these bets.

No. I'm either going to
A) play the events with fewer entries to increase chances of winning a bracelet, as well as PoY EV or...
B) play the events with TV coverage

Given A + B, it looks like I'm going to be playing a lot of higher buyin mixed games rather than NLHE.

so you are strictly playing for fame? Nothing wrong with that, but im just wondering what your goals are. If its to land sponsorship deals and become marketable, thats fine.
