Re: Money is so overrated.
Money is a necessity, but there's no reason to let it rule your life.

Re: Money is so overrated.
I found that once you have reached a certain level of wealth most of your basic needs are no longer an issue. A place to live? A car to drive? Dinner? Clothing? All this is covered. What's even better about Western society is that aside from having the basics in all these areas, most salaried "middle classers" can also afford some luxuries, but usually only one or two. In essence, you can have all the basic stuff you need AND a really nice car (or house or vacation or clothing etc...), but you need to be wealthy in order to "upgrade" ALL your basics to luxury type items.

Re: Money is so overrated.
Money is not over rated.
To have enough money to support you and your family for the rest of your life would be tremendously freeing. As long as this isn't the case, you're tied to spending 40+ hours a week to doing something you don't really want to do. Financial freedom would be incredible. |

Re: Money is so overrated.
Buk,
I very strongly suspect that most of the overrated camp are young and have no dependents. For a college kid in a dorm, yeah money may be overrated. For a 40 year old supporting a family of 4, not so much. J |

Re: Money is so overrated.
[ QUOTE ]
But for basically the past two years, I've bought myself [censored] to make me feel good about myself. Just because I could. And somehow I convinced myself that that's what separated me from other people in general, and other people my age in particular. Which is quite obviously stupid. [/ QUOTE ] I'm a whole year older and wiser than you, I'm just starting to figure this out. Keep your head up. Seriously though those who learn the value of money at an early age are way ahead of everyone else. Its all about how you live your life and if you're happy. If you're making 2k a month you could be much richer than someone making 6k. For more information please read the millionaire next door and rich dad poor dad... |

Re: Money is so overrated.
[ QUOTE ]
being wealthy/striving for money, and being materialistic are two completely different things. I want to get money to avoid living paycheck to paycheck. I don't want to have to stress over car troubles b/c I can't afford to replace my engine. I don't however, want watches nice cars or any of that [censored]. I do want to be able to buy a house where my family can live. I want to be able to take vacations. Money is important to all my goals, but I don't consider myself materialistic. [/ QUOTE ] Zeebo what about the 4 used mattresses you own. Do you really think you need them? Or did you just find a good deal and you're stocking up for your family down the road. |
