Default big PF raise

Hi,

I am new to this great game, trying to understand and learn as much as I can. I am playing NL $0,50/$1 full ring. I noticed that I have a lot of problems with players raising 5-6 x BB PF. I just don’t know how to play against that kind of players. If maniac raises 5xBB OOP and I have AJs or AQs, and the flop is 279 rainbow. There I just don’t know how to play it. Most of the time maniac bets the pot size or even more than that and that’s where I fold most of the time. I do understand that maniac can have a monster, I also think that if he had monster he would or slowplay it or small raise it. But I just cannot call that. And on top of that even when I finnaly call every so often, he has a monster….there goes my bankroll.
Is there a tactic against that kind of players and against that kind a play?

I agree...25 or 50 would probably be better starting grounds.

As for the 5x-6x BB raise, these aren't all that big.

The "standard" raise is 4xBB + 1xBB per limper.
So yeah, 5x-6x really isn't that big.

Also I wouldn't start with 100NL if you just started playing poker. I can tell that you're afraid of losing money if a 6$ pre-flop raise scares you.

Try something like 10NL (0.05/0.10$)
