Re: Ivey and Doyle golf convo on FTP
[ QUOTE ]
[ QUOTE ] [ QUOTE ] [ QUOTE ] What private golf clubs are Ivey/Doyle members of? don't tell me these 2 rich gamblers play on public courses?? i doubt they would be allowed membership in most private clubs. [/ QUOTE ] Why do you doubt this? [/ QUOTE ] most golf courses are very selective when it comes to membership. You have to be rich, you have to be a VIP of some sort (retired CEO, investor, millionare business founder etc) or a doctor/surgeon/top lawyer. It would be impossible for a young guy like negreanu with a background in gambling to make it. Maybe that is the way it is in california go get into a top private course but im guessing in Vegas where most of the courses are not that old, and not run by good ol boys which are the members themselves who compose the membership committees, it is different. [/ QUOTE ] so you're saying that if you're a millionaire that's not enough? seems silly and i have doubts. [/ QUOTE ] It's highly possible that this is not enough in some instances, dependening on the history and tradition of the course... Its well known that Bill Gates was trying to get on the Augusta members list for years before he was finally admitted |

Re: Ivey and Doyle golf convo on FTP
There are plenty of decent private clubs that will accept pretty much anyone willing to pay the initiation and annual dues. They won't accept ANYONE but most won't have a problem. The clubs you guys are talking about are the cream of the crop; the most prestigious clubs in the world.

Re: Ivey and Doyle golf convo on FTP
All it would take is one poker fan on the acceptance board to get those kinda guys a membership.
Plus, free publicity. |

so you're saying that if you're a millionaire that's not enough? seems silly and i have doubts. [/ QUOTE ]Definitely true. I caddied at an exclusive club outside NYC when I was a teenager that had a strict no doctors/lawyers policy and women were only allowed to play on Sundays. Of course these types of clubs are very few and shouldn't be lumped in with most private courses will take anyone who can pay them their dues. |

Re: Ivey and Doyle golf convo on FTP
[ QUOTE ]
[ QUOTE ] [ QUOTE ] how the hell does doyle even still play golf? (I thought his leg was injured fairly bad) From numerous interviews by people such as Ivey, they all say Doyle is one of the best out there. I thought he could barely walk, and had to use a crutch to get around...? Maybe he just hurt his leg briefly when I saw him with crutches on WSOP/WPT shows... [/ QUOTE ] I've heard he gets a few different spots now, but when healthy, he was supposed to be pretty awesome at golf. Dunno if that means he could beat yer average PGA guy in his time, but maybe. [/ QUOTE ] I don't think doyle has ever been awesome at golf. He has been awesome at gambling on golf. [/ QUOTE ] I think Doyle was actually a top-class athlete in his younger days... |
