Re: Top 5 greatest American bands of all time
[ QUOTE ]
P-Funk is not seperate bands. The name only changed because they lost the legal rights to the name. [/ QUOTE ] This was very early on, before the bands became famous. The two were releasing albums simultaneously in the 70's under the different names, although it appears that a lot of the members were the same. |

[ QUOTE ] Fountsins of Wayne fyc P.S. New album is awesome. [/ QUOTE ] If this is the band that sang that incredibly annoying song about Stacy's mom, then no. (or am I being leveled?) [/ QUOTE ] Fountains of Wayne is actually a really good band, and yeah, that song is annoying as [censored], but their first two albums are pop gems. |

Re: Top 5 greatest American bands of all time

[ QUOTE ] Metallica is also completely one-dimensional, while the Smashing Pumpkins are arguably the most multi-faceted major-label band in history. [/ QUOTE ] i was just going to type 'lol,' but then i realized that perhaps subtle gradations of 'angsty' and 'whiny' may now be considered a multitude of facets in contemporary rock. so sad. [/ QUOTE ] I think, perhaps, you have no clue what you are talking about. 1979 is whiny? It's pop music. Snail is angsty? It's shoegaze. Tales of a Scorched Earth is heavier than anything by Metallica and Whir is folk music. Just because you hear Bullet With Butterfly Wings and you watch MTV news doesn't mean you should offer your opinion when it's obviously an uneducated one. Just saying. |

Pretty funny when you see people bagging Nickelback and Creed whilst loving Metallica in the same thread. If MYV didn't put those names in the bottom of the screen how would you know what crap you were listening to anyway.
Kiss [censored] all over Metallica and they weren't even serious. |

Re: Top 5 greatest American bands of all time
There are a lot of good choices in this thread, obviously, but I think any Top 5 MUST include R.E.M. and the Beach Boys (and I'm not a huge R.E.M. fan).
Actually, the Beach Boys is probably the #1 U.S. band of all time, if you combine popularity, music quality, and future influence. |
