Default AKs facing aggression.

villain is 26/24/3.75, but i haven't seen him reraise all that often.

PokerStars No-Limit Hold'em, $0.25 BB (5 handed) Hand History Converter Tool from FlopTurnRiver.com (Format: 2+2 Forums)

SB ($33.60)
BB ($14.95)
UTG ($16.35)
Hero ($61.65)
Button ($22.75)

Preflop: Hero is MP with A[img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img], K[img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img].
1 fold, Hero raises to $1, 1 fold, SB raises to $8, 1 fold, Hero calls $7.

Flop: ($16.25) 4[img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img], T[img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img], 3[img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img] (2 players)
SB bets $25.6 (All-In), Hero folds.

Final Pot: $41.85

Sorry to ask such a basic question, but did I play this properly pre-flop? His oversized raise to $8 had me confused. If he really had a big hand, wouldn't he have just popped it to $3-$5? Why would he raise to $8 unless he didn't want a caller.

However, I hadn't seen him reraising very much at all preflop... plenty of raises, but no reraising. So he probably DID have a big hand..

Either way, folding doesn't seem right, and for me to re-reraise i'd basically have to put him all in. Pushing with AK preflop in cash games never seems to work out for me, but is it the right move in this case?

Just fold it pre-flop. You're just hoping he's doing this with AQ or less, which he isn't most of the time. If he's done it a few times already, you could shove. I really don't like just calling though.

I think this is an all-in or fold: whatever the flop brings you, you will never be certain if you have the best hand or not. He might have AA, KK, or worse (AKs, AKo, AQs, ...).

So, (a) if you have a read that he can lay-down QQ or worse, go all-in for fold equity. If he doesn't fold, it is a coin flip; (b) if you have a read he is raising with worse hands like AKo, AKs, AQs, ..., go all-in, you have the best hand and you have fold equity. However, if he calls, it is still a coin flip. If you don't have any read, fold.

AKs is a great starting hand, your just a dog to 2 other hands. When the SB raises to 8, you can pretty much narrow down the hands that he's raising with. If your 100% sure he has AA/KK, I'd fold the AKs...

I'd put him on QQ+ here post flop... Just my guess...

I would fold preflop given your read. If player was a little looser, I'd probably push preflop.

yea i knew calling was the wrong move even before i hit the button, but i just couldn't let myself fold AKs, nor did i have the stones to push. so i figured i'd let go of the $8 and just pray for a good flop, and then come post the hand here

anyway i still wasn't sure if i should have pushed or folded. I looked him up on PT and the only hands i saw him showdown with that he raised with preflop were 32s (utg), 44 in MP, T8s (CO), and 55 (CO). Makes it seem like he was raising with some garbage hands.

I couldn't find any hands where he 3-bet preflop though.

So, if this is the only time i saw him 3-bet over 130 hands, I have to assume he actually had something strong.

BTW, is there any way to tell PT to look up how often someone reraises preflop, and/or have PAhud display it? Scrolling through hands just looking at hands where PFR% > 0 takes a while to find the hands where they reraised and not just raised.

I would probably fold too, but hate myself for it. You haven't invested much and he's pretty much saying he wants to play for his entire stack. You're 50/50 or worse, so it doesn't really pay to continue.
