I currently have 1Gb of RAM. However, I wish to upgrade this and make it 2Gb of RAM.I believe there is a bit of software that can be downloaded that can tell you your make and model of RAM currently within your PC.
I've been told that I need to exactly replicate my current 1Gb to make the upgrade successful. Is this true? Does anyone know how to identify the RAM within you PC? |

you don't need an exact replicate of your current ram to make it successful. you typically want RAM of the same speed as your current ram for dual channel to be successful.
you can go to http://www.cpuid.com/cpuz.php and download CPUZ. When you run this it will gather MUCHO information about your motherboard, processor and memory. It will tell you what speed and timings your current memory is set at. You can use this to get another stick of very similar memory. I typically only buy my memory in matched sets at this point, so you may consider selling your 1gb and buying a good 2gb set. |

Everest Home edition v. 2.20.405 is a great product by Lavalys. However the free version was discontinued a few years ago (I still use it). But if you can find it get it.
http://www.cpuid.com/cpuz.php CPU-Z v. 1.39 equally as good and free. |

Ram is fairly cheap right now , why dont you just buy a couple of matched 1 GB sticks and install them, then sell off the single (or 512x2 sticks) that you have now.
Reality is you arent going to find sticks exactly the same as you have. You WILL still need to know what your board will take... http://www.crucial.com/systemscanner/ |
