Default JJ overpair gets cr on flop, checked to on turn

Is this flop call spew? Is the turn bet even worse? I posted this in micro accidentally - got mixed answers.

Hero ($98.50)

Preflop: Hero is Button with J[img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img], J[img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img].
3 folds, Hero raises to $4, 1 fold, BB calls $3.

Flop: ($8.50) 2[img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img], 8[img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img], 6[img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img] (2 players)
BB checks, Hero bets $7, BB raises to $19, Hero calls $12.

Turn: ($46.50) 7[img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img] (2 players)
BB checks, Hero bets $23

I like the flop play. Turn play is marginal. Use pot control with one pair and check, imo

This is one time where pot control is not what you want. You are letting him see free cards with what looks like a draw he tried to semi-bluff you with on the flop. Betting out allows you to check behind on the river (instead of facing a bet on the river which is not what you want), and you can fold to a second check-raise with the feeling you are laying down the weaker hand.

I like it as played.

Lots of rivers suck. I like a bet here with the intention of folding to a CR, and evaluating a river bet from opponent. Not sure if I'd VB on a crappy river if checked to.

lots of rivers suck? why? i dont think villain has 10x here much, and wouldnt be very worried about overcards on river
