Re: Florida Senate - SB0810 to revise cardroom laws?
As noted earlier in this thread, S1192 also covers increasing betting limits up to $40, but only on card games involving one round of betting, e.g., blackjack.

Re: Florida Senate - SB0810 to revise cardroom laws?
[ QUOTE ]
[ QUOTE ] Yes they can increase their reveunes with higher stakes in two ways...first, more tables, and second, with higher stakes the "average" rake will be higher and probably max out at the $5 limit much more often. At present, "on average" the average rake per hand does not reach the $5 limit. [/ QUOTE ] They are not going to add more poker tables if they get Class III slot machines, which are much more profitable than poker tables. Have you ever played the $2 game at any of the Florida card rooms? The no-fold-em games where all they have to do is turn a flop to get their max $5 rake? [/ QUOTE ] OK!!! (I swear, there is always one person arguing about nothing) so what's your theory, they want higher stakes to make less money??? Have you ever counted the rake on each hand...if you have you will notice that it does not reach $5 very much of the time. Under your theory they rake $5 every hand which is simply not true or even close. And I have been playing there since we played for quarters!! So, again, what is your theory (since you want to argue), why get higher stakes since in your world they are maxing out at $5 each hand already, and no new tables will be added, according to you...why change anything??? |

Re: Florida Senate - SB0810 to revise cardroom laws?
A floor person at the Hollywood Hard Rock said the rake generated from the poker room is nothing compared to what they make from the slots. I've only played the tourneys and never the limit tables but they make a lot more in rake from the donkeys slowly bleeding money off than if they were getting stacked $500 at a time from a NL cash game.

Re: Florida Senate - SB0810 to revise cardroom laws?
It's been my point all along that there is no compelling reason to believe it will be changed. Right-wing politicians who rule the state and the very powerful tourism industry don't want it and the cardrooms don't really care because they're already packing 'em in and maxing out rake consistently for the $2 games.

Right-wing politicians who rule the state and the very powerful tourism industry don't want it [/ QUOTE ] The key "right wing politician" was recently replaced. Have you not gotten the news? Granted, nothing was ever going to be accomplished under Jeb Bush but I doubt Crist has anywhere near the hard on against gambling as Bush. Additionally, do you really think the tourism industry cares as long as hotels are filled? Atlantic City, Biloxi, etc. would not be able to compete with Florida for any of the East Coast "gambler" tourist dollars. |

Re: Seminole Casino\'s
[ QUOTE ]
[ QUOTE ] Once those facilities are permitted to host higher stakes games, the Indian casinos are inherently allowed to do anything so long as it maintains fair competition with their surrounding competitors. [/ QUOTE ] Theny why are they not allowed to have Class III slots now like the Broward parimutuels have? [/ QUOTE ] It has to do with the tribes not having compacts with the state to allow class III gaming. As noted in some of the posts in this thread the Seminoles have filed court papers in an attempt to force the the Florida government into negotiating a compact. Nerd facts. The Seminole Tribe (Florida) is one of the few tribes not to have a treaty with the Federal Government. The Seminoles also started the Native American movement into casino gaming with the case Seminole Tribe vs. Butterworth (1979. Google that one for more info. |

Re: Seminole Casino\'s
[ QUOTE ]
you see very weird structures - limit holdem with a 2$ ante and 2/2 blinds - just ridiculous [/ QUOTE ] Action Poker - at Derby Lane it is played as a raise or fold game. Two blinds and $8 to see the flop. The following streets can be checked around but if there is a bet you must raise or fold. I've not seen a single pot less than $100 at showdown. |

Guys, you don't really believe that Jeb was the only right-winger in our government, do you, or that he was the only one pulling the strings? As far as the tourism industry goes and filling hotel rooms, there aren't any hotel rooms to fill that aren't on the beachfront, the Disney campus or tribal land. The tourism industry is doing quite well filling the beachfront hotels, the Disney people can take care of themselves and both are going to fight tooth-and-nail anything that would help the Hard Rocks become more competitive. Tourism people in Miami were responsible for the defeat of a referendum three years ago to allow slot machines in Miami-Dade, and they squawk very loudly anytime they get wind of something that might help the parimutuels expand their business. They sell sand and sun and paradise and don't want any part of going into competition with gambling locales. And I don't think the Disney people are going to sit idly by and let it happen, either. |
