its not a big bluff. its a semibluff. the math behind it makes it far more profitable then a straight bluff which it why semibluffing is a strong tactic. because you have to call the turn anyway investing 1 more bet to potentially take down the pot is often worth it. the opponent will think in his head "he would have to invest 2 bets to win x pot bets which means hed only do this y percent of the time which means i can fold z percent of the time." because his understanding of the frequencies are wrong as you only need to invest 1 bet to bluff instead of 2, you can now semibluff 2y instead of 2 which makes folding z way too often. of course most players dont think so technically about the situation nor do they have frequencies down to a science, but their approximations will be incorrect making semibluffing more profitable.

say you're in villain's shoes, what are you taking to SD here against this action?

Pretty much any hand I 3 bet the flop and bet the turn.

A semi-bluff versus calling is only relatively +EV if it has some fold equity.

You don't need us to list some ranges for the hands consistent with his play before your turn CR - you can do this as well. Make a list, count the combos, discount for some Baysian if you like, then tell us which he folds and which he calls.

PS: I don't give you credit for a set, because you probably would have 3-bet 77/66, and folded 22. If I'm him and I think I'm behind 76, I still call because I have odds to counterfeit.

No problem. I did a bunch of math to try and justify the point I was trying to make and found out that I was basically FOS. Learning is good.

Cliffnotes on the math? Just curious how you work this out.
