big multiway pot with set, I only put in 1 raise postflop
UTG is 54/6/1 over 72 hands, SB is unknown
hero has 8[img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img]8[img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img] in MP UTG limps, hero raises, CO folds, button calls, SB calls, BB calls flop: T[img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img]8[img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img]3[img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img] SB bets, BB folds, UTG calls, hero calls, button folds I was planning on popping a safe turn. my equity changes a lot with a non-heart and I have the fishy UTG trapped between me and the SB. turn: 6[img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img] SB bets, UTG raises, hero calls, SB calls I didn't think I was ahead here that often when UTG wakes up. I definately have odds to peel though. river: T[img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img] SB checks, UTG bets, hero raises, SB 3bets, UTG caps, hero calls I thought I played this one well, but should I have been more aggressive on the flop or turn? |

Re: big multiway pot with set, I only put in 1 raise postflop
I raise the flop and turn in this situation. I usually jam this in this situation because so many people jam their big draws as well.
I have middle set probably the best hand 95% of the time by itself. I have a redraw to a boat if the turn 4 flushes. I am maybe way off base but this is my standard play here. |

raise the flop, sb wont always bet a blank for u Id 3bet the turn as played ur still well ahead of both their ranges neither are really that likely to have a flush here and if u could fold out sb with a heart thats awesome (if UTG doesnt have one). UTGs turn raise is mandatory for him with many of his worse hands dont fear him yet
cant fold the river |

I raise the flop. The pot is big you have a very strong hand and waiting for the turn doesn't do you a lot of good because of your relative position.

I won't be able to raise to protect my hand from a flush draw, but I will hopefully be able to get in two big bets with much higher equity on a blank turn. |

Raise the flop. For value and also because pretty much any hand that button will call for one bet here is likely going to call for two.

You have a set, not top pair; your equity is higher and you have redraws to go with it. |

I don't think your equity will jump enough from flop to turn to justify waiting for the turn and you won't be able to protect your hand because of your position.

Re: big multiway pot with set, I only put in 1 raise postflop
sb will end up making a 3bet with like KT no heart for u alot on this board (losing the one player with a heart would be great for ur equity) and then u get to either cap or raise the turn thats another pro of raising now besides straight value. I wouldnt even think of waiting til the turn to raise here I almost gave a much more passionate "wtf raise the flop jesus christ" kinda response at first but then decided to be a bit more subdued.

after a little stoving I agree with you. my equity only jumps ~10%, and it is quite high already.

Re: big multiway pot with set, I only put in 1 raise postflop
like jstill says, I think one of the primary reasons to raise the flop is so that SB can 3-bet.
