Default House players in rooms

I play in a few So Cal rooms like, Oceans 11, Haw. Gardens and Pechanga. These rooms have house players(props?) right? If so, are they compensated at all for playing? They have to gamble with their own loot even if they are paid I assume?

If they weren't compensated for playing why would you consider them house players?

they usually get a small hourly. they get health ins. they play with their own money. depending on the card room, they can get moved from the best games, and don't control where they play or even what they play, althought they can have some input (depending on the card room and the relationship they have established with the floor).

I see the same, usually a bit older players every time I go to certain joints. At first I was thinking, wow don't these guys have better things to do than to be here from 10AM-10 PM every time I am here? A friend said that they are prob house players. I was just wondering about them.

Thanks amulet

Often times gentlemen that are a bit older just really have nothing better to do with their time then play poker all day. Some call them regulars.

This is very true. Also typically if a casino uses house players, you can ask a floor and they will be happy to answer any question you have about it.

And yes, there are a ton of older guys and guys that run businesses that spend all day in the card room becuase it gets them away from everything else.
