Re: Interview Q for my internship.. solvable in 60 secs?
[ QUOTE ]
Why does it have to the one they say multiple times? He asked what day it IS, not what day it MOST LIKELY is. Two people could easily be coincidentally telling the same lie, given a range of only 7 choices. [/ QUOTE ] Because if 1,3 or 4 people lied you wouldn't know the answer. Krishan |

Re: Interview Q for my internship.. solvable in 60 secs?
The number of liars has to be 2, 3 or 4, not 1. The problem isn't solvable as far as I can tell.

There is no right answer. |

Re: Interview Q for my internship.. solvable in 60 secs?
Wow-
Reading some of this makes me realize I'd have no shot of getting a job in the real/competitive world. What kind of response would I be likely to get from an interviewer if I gave the following response to the bang/2 torpedoes question: 'The probability that both hit the sub is 0 since if you heard a bang, one of them hit the sub, so the 2nd torpedo wouldn't have anything left to hit.' No job for me! |

1) you have $1024 (can use any number here as the process is obv the same). What is the least amount of bags you can put that $572 into and be able to hand me any amount I ask for between $1 and $1024 just by handing me whole bags. [/ QUOTE ] 11 bags. Making it $1024 is a huge hint. [ QUOTE ] A man suffering from anesia... [/ QUOTE ] 2. Today is Tuesday, March 27th. |

Re: Interview Q for my internship.. solvable in 60 secs?
[ QUOTE ]
One was the standard "estimate how many XXXX are in YYYY" (gas stations in the country, or undertakers in the state, whatever). (And most folks actually got within 2x or 3x of the correct undertakers answer). [/ QUOTE ] Do you know the answer? Around 16,000? If asked I would guess life expectancy to be about 75 and the population to be about 300 million, so approximately 4MM deaths per year. Approximately 1 funeral per day per undertaker, is about 250 funerals per year per undertaker, and 4MM / 250 = 16K. I've used the question below (made popular on these forums by Ed Miller) in interviews, and one girl got very uncomfortable and said "I don't like guns." That sucked. A friend and I are playing Russian Roulette (6 cylinder gun). In order to spice things up we use two bullets, and put them in adjacent chambers. My friend draws the long straw and has to go first. He spins the chamber, snaps it in, pulls the trigger, and the gun clicks -- empty chamber. I now have the option of immediately pulling the trigger, or spinning again. Which gives me the higher probability of surviving? |
