Wow, there's some serious leveling going on in this thread.
Of the modern performers, MJ is probably the widest known, but how do you argue with still selling "records" after several hundred years. I'd be shocked if you could find more than a few thousand people who'd know who 50cents was in a hundred years. |

i'm confused: the op says "influenced" and the posters answer "recognize". how has michael jackson influenced anyone at all? allowed them to see the depths to which a person can sink? i can't imagine a way in which his music has had any influence. listen to charlie parker, in my opinion the greatist musician of the 20th century. his presence is felt almost everywhere you hear blues-based music. tv show soundtracks (mike post, et al) use single lines of his improvisations and turn them into themes........................b
