Default Tough spot with 99

$25MTT, 1134 start, 153 pay, down to 75. no reads on the player. with an utg raise and a smooth call, i was getting 4-1 on my money. additionally i thought i had enough chips where if i missed the flop, i would still have 16k in chips, although i realize thats not much compared to the 600/1200

Final Pot: t73790

at the time i check called the flop because i thought it was weak (he bet 3600 into a 9600), and i may have the best hand. additionally i thought i could take it away with a checkraise on the turn if a blank hits. once the J hits the turn i thought i still might be ahead, and his push made me think he was making a play with ace high. did i play this horribly by not defining my or his hand? i realize smooth calling the flop gives me no information. how poorly did i play this hand? looking for analysis please.

Agreed, its push or fold here. The pot is about half your stack when it gets to you. If you think your ahead, push and be happy if you take it down.
