James, I decided to check out MotorCity Casino last night. I'm playing 5/10 and a guy to my left can't shut up. Two guys are straddling and he insists on telling them it's "the stupidest play in poker," talking about his great plays, how people are calling with anything, etc etc. Pretty annoying. He mentions the straddling again and says, "I've read three poker books and all of them say it's the stupidest move in poker." I ask him what books. He mumbles something and then shuts up.

he may be smarter than you give him credit for. the best way to keep from looking like an idiot is stfu. of course when you've already opened up your dumb mouth it's often too late.

i was playing some 2/5NL at a local indian casino the other night. i was pretty card dead. the guy to my left was in the same boat. he was nice enough. really chatty during the session. he would comment on plays, how the hands played out, how he would have had a straight by the river, blah, blah, blah.

his chatter didn't bother me as much as his smell. everytime he would talk in my direction he smelled like a really soured sharp cheddar cheese. being the nice guy that i am, i just tried to grin and bear it. needless to say, when his inevitable bustout occurred, i was glad to see the seat open up and get filled by a nice young lady. of course i'm a happily married man, but we could still talk poker.

I miss limit.

For all who care (probably not many harr harr), I have been taking a solid hiatus to learn NL since the game selection is so much better at FTP.

Holler!

play both. it's what i do. of course i only play NL live and limit online(unless a live game is offered) so my situation is different. game selection online NL is so much better. but the online games are still very beatable. you just need to adjust to the new textures. good luck. holla!

NL is fun.

2/5 live

i had just lost a pretty decent sized pot the hand just before this one. for that reason my stack isn't topped off. i think i had about $320 to start the hand(i usually keep the $500 capped buyin in front of me if possible).

i open in EP with two red aces for $24 straight, a pretty good player coldcalls behind me, a pretty crappy player on a good run of cards call OTB, BB calls. everyone has me covered but the bb and he has around $300. 4 to the flop.

Flop(~$98): T [img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img]8 [img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img]3 [img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img]

bb checks, i bet $90, good players tanks and folds, button calls, bb drops. two to the turn.

Turn(~$273 after rake): 2 [img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img]

i shove for about $200, button calls.

River($673ish): 9 [img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img]

i show red aces, villain shows T [img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img]4 [img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img]

i say "you had to call, nice hand" in as sincere a voice as i can muster while stacking.

I'm sad. First James, then Haupt, now Harv all ditching limit to play NL. Maybe limit really is dying

I'm curious since there's been some discusion in this thread and some others:

How much of your total poker play is Full Ring limit hold em? If you play any other games(including 6max limit) a significant amount of the time what are they? (by significant I mean at least 20%, not the occasional NL tourney etc..)

Before my hiatus last week, I played probably about 40% FR LHE & 55% 6max LHE, with the rest just donking around in mixed games, MTTs, etc. The 40/55 ratio was just a product of game selection on FTP/Stars more than personal preference.

I don't think I'm going to be ditching LHE for the micro NL tables just yet, tho.
