The Great White was sick! I read somewhere that they had to re-film it on a better camera at like 10k FPS. 1 second slowed to 20 in perfect fluidity, some of these shots are a damned trip. There's a dizzying beauty in seeing a herd of a couple hundred carabou sail up the TV that makes me want to buy an HD-DVD player for the DVD set.

The narrations is acceptable (they could have gotten a more distinct voice like GOB or something) but there's something about a british accent that makes random facts more interesting.

They are re-airing it again on Saturday and tomorrow afternoon, and i assume they'll do this every week for each of the next three installments.

Here is the schedule.

Thing is, they already aired this a year ago in Britain, and had a British narrator - David Attenborough. Here's the BBC version of the shark sequence:

This is cool, though. That shark was vicious.

Is this the same series as the BBC Planet Earth bit? I can't believe they took out Attenborough's voiceovers, he is second to almost no one at narration of nature films.

HD is great, but it has been awhile since my jaw has literally dropped watching HD. The Great White nabbing the seal did it, holy [censored].

Yep, same show. I have no idea why the narration was replaced, I guess Americans aren't familiar with David Atenborough (I didn't know who he was until I found his stuff on youtube).

This was cool as hell. It has been running all day on Discovery HD.

I think the Snow Leopard hunting sequence was one of the cooler thing so far. Only because I havent seen it before. The agility and speed, plus the rarity of seeing them, was cool.

I've been seeing Attenborough's nature shows for decades. I think I would have liked him as a narrator here. Weaver's voice was mixed in so that it was way too quiet in comparison to the music. Often I turned it up to hear her and then had the show's music blast out in comparison.
