I go to Miami on business once or twice a year. For the past 3 or 4 years I've been struck by the number of high-rise projects on or around Brickell Street.
I wonder if money coming in from Venezuela is a big factor. |

I was living in a high rise in the Brickell area for about a year up until a few months ago. I had to move to Coconut Grove because all of the construction going on around the building I was living at (The Vue) was too much. Construction noises all day, and sometimes at really weird hours. I remember one time they woke me up at 4am on a Saturday. There were three major construction sites immediately next to my building, so it just became too much.
If you drive down I-95 where it passes by the city, you can play a fun game and try to count all of the cranes you see. It's crazy. I also have a feeling that a lot of these buildings will have trouble occupying, and a lot of these projects will be haulted mid-construction. |

For those that don't read El D's forum, check out the Cocaine Cowboys documentary. There is a pretty cool story about how all the coke smugglers grew this city out of control earlier and most of the city development was built on this money. I wonder what it is this time around. [/ QUOTE ] I lol to myself every once in a while thinking about how this city was built on cocaine (possibly still is). Cocaine Cowboys is a really cool documentary, The Godmother (Griselda Blanco) is one scary bitch. |
