Default Is Checking Here Savvy or Just Passive?

No reads on villain...Should I bet here almost always, or is it okay to exercise some pot control and check behind? My thoughts on checking behind were that if I get any significant action on this board against an UTG raiser, I am probably beat (unless he has QQ). I am new to 6-max, so I'm not sure if this is more of a full ring mentality...

i would have fired at the flop... i don't want no straight draws biting my ass. delaying any action would just complicate your decision more on the turn since there is more variables but still no information.

3 betting has become so prevalant in these games, that his range is much wider than 1010+ here. A lot of guys call thinking they are getting set value. Checking the flop is ok sometimes as you will usually not stack your opponent with worse hands, but betting is better IMO.

Since it seems that the consensus is to bet, what do you guys do if he check-raises here?

You're not checking AQ on this flop after 3 betting are you? Then don't check KK. (you can start mixing up your play against regs but against an unkown in this spot you're just giving up value.) Anyway if you're c/r'ed it sucks but I'm pretty sure a fold is correct without a read that the guy's a spewmonkey, most players aren't c/r'ing QQ here. Most of the time you're looking at a set or AA.
