Default a session where i concentrated on 3betting an opponent

i'm posting 1 table where i specifically decided to target an opponent to practice 3 betting. 242 hands cropped down to just the 3 betting pre/steal/resteal hands that either worked or failed.

please please give me input on either how you'd play it differently and why, or if it's just fine.

i had position on this opponent the whole time, so he'd always be first to act unless i'm on SB...then he'd be button. these hands are in order.

FWIW, opponent was "see_L0W" on 50nl stars:

Default Re: a session where i concentrated on 3betting an opponent

ok there are about a billion hands there, cant look at em all!

but i would say that i really dont like 3betting with AT and other Ax's, and KJ type hands... on the whole i'd just fold, even if its likely hes stealing.

I'd much rather 3bet hands 67s. You're far less likely to get yourself in trouble and theyr're much easier to play post flop. If you hit your A you're not gonna get max value out of a hand like JJ-kk because you'll be too scared of being outkicked. It'll put you in tough marginal spots against, on the whole, better than average players (im assuming they're better than average otherwise 3betting them light is a bad idea.)

At these stakes i think its more profitable to play fairly straight forward, 3 betting your premium hands and getting called by fish with weaker holdings.

Im not saying play completely ABC tag all the time, obviously you can mix it up against the better, more observant players, and 3 bet them light when they've been stealing a lot. Just saying that you make most of your money from the donks stacking off too easily and chasing draws post flop, rather than playing small ball vs the decent regulars.

seems like he never folds to a 3bet pre so I dont know if I like this. All that in 240 hands is a lot of 3betting one guy. Looks like he's calling to say a favorable flop, thinking he will be able to stack you. Good job overall staying out of trouble and coming out ahead.

The one hand where you had J7, you both checked it down and you rivered a Jack. You bet he fold. Just wondering, you're very likely to have the best hand an it doesn't look like you'll get a call by a worse hand. Why not check behind for value? Show him your cheese. Let him make adjustments to you, while you readjust as well. You could get great value from your premium hands from any player at the table because they're likely to think that your raising light.

I think you need to standardise your 3-bet size. 4.5x for the KK hand v 3x for ATo would get readable if you're 3-betting this frequently.

Also, imo, it's much more important to c-bet when you 3-bet than when you're making the first raise and get called and you didn't c-bet very often here. Especially, because you've position on him. I know you might be expecting check-raises but I didn't see one in this entire run so looks like a slim chance.

And that KTs push is awful imo. Maybe good for image I guess.

Otherwise, looks like a good day at the tables. Hope that guy was steaming at the end!!

haha, you're a dick. who are you?

and yeah, i was wondering if you were doing it a) because you still had your panties in a wad over the way i hardcore embarassed you in that thread yo, b) you were actually trying to open up your game, or c) Lee Jones kept giving you QQ+/AK so that I'd get sick of it and stack off to you.

from what i remember of that night though, your 3bets/flop leads (if any) were all good and had me adequately frustratd (but that may be because i kept whiffing too).

wow lotsa hands...

General opinion - why you not betting flop more often?

I think you ought to CB the flop more often than not when you 3bet pre - obv not every time but you seem to check less than you bet.

ATo: I hate 3betting with ATo I'd pick SC's, offsuit connectors, over AT all day.
Standard turn fold.

J7o: I like - but bet the flop.

KQo: - bet flop.

T2o: fold preflop - what are you hoping to hit?? I know plan A is for villain to fold pre or fold flop - so in that respect you can do this with ATC - *but* you need to have a plan B I think - which usually involves making hte best hand. T2o hits about 3% of flops hard enough to felt in a re-raised pot. ALso note he's folded a few pots on the flop previously - he's going to call you down soon (cos he's hit a hand) after 2-3 succesful steals I'd tighten my 3bet range a *little*

K8o: (you get 3bet) he minraised - you have odds to call here I think being in position - if he raises more than min - then fold.

AQo: bet flop - river fold is standard - but you should have taken this down on the flop I think.

TT: (flopped set) your turn bet is too big. Bet half pot - you can still comfortably get stacks in by the river with a half pot turn here.

KQo: standard I think flop check is goot here - very wet flop.

QJo: bet flop - it's paired - it's almost certainly missed him.

KTs: eeewwwww. fold after shorty minraises you - you are almost always behind and sometimes crushed here. If you think "Villain" will notice your wide range and it's a metagame thing then cool - but tighten 3bet range after this goes down.

77: bet. somehwere.

KK: your flop bet is too big. Make it a little over half pot.

Overall you are doing this with lots of "dominated" hands KQ KT etc - avoid these and go with sc's, unsuited connectors, suited 1gaps and stuff like that - and for Chrissake bet the flop more often
