I don't have a vig/point calculation for kobe, but I play a ton of nba player props for games and I'd much rather have the u40 as a gut reaction.

the value of a half point depends on where you think the true line is.

for example, if i think the dodgers are a true 83 win team, it might be worth betting under 88 at -110 instead of 87.5 straight up, but it will certainly not be worth it to pay -110 to bet under 100.5 instead of under 100 at even.

the under 40 is probably still better, but in a case like this where the line is far off from the true line, it's an important consideration.
