Blood Diamond Review - No Real Spoilers

Watched this movie today.

Is it preachy? Yes, but I don't think this is preachy in the way some movies are anti-drug or other things like that. It's a very legitimate problem, that very little people in the US seem to care about.

Was the plot contrived? Yes. The twists and occurences are very unrealistic, as is the main characters' Jack Bauer-esque ability to avoid being shot at point blank range by machine guns.

That said, it doubled really well as an action/adventure type movie, featured a relevant issue, and had an incredible acting performance by Dicaprio. I also thought the directing was very done well.

I give it an 8/10, and will never purchase a diamond.

As someone who has lived in Africa I can say that they did a good job on the feel of this film. But the astounding thing was Dicaprio. He just nailed the role of the South African mercenary. The way he intimidates those around him, particularly when he is tiny in comparison, is exactly what you have to do to survive out there.

I thought that the ending was a big let down though.
