[ QUOTE ]
The organisers must be praying for an India win, the loss of their biggest market in the first round would be a big blow

[/ QUOTE ]

The TV guys have chewed off all their fingernails waiting in nervous anticipation of the SL vs. India match. If India lose, they are gone barring an unlikely win by Bermuda over Bangladesh.

There is so much money at stake that there is talk going around that either the SL vs. India or Bangla vs. Bermuda might get fixed to ensure that India advances.

I don't know if I quite buy that possibility but one wonders....

In any event, the organizers must be regretting the format of this year's tourney. In 2003, IIRC, there were 14 teams in two groups of 7. All teams were guaranteed 6 games following which the top 3 from each group advanced to the next round. This therefore meant that one fluke loss would not completely handcuff the chances of an otherwise strong team to advance. This year, one bad game and you are in deep doodoo as India is finding out.

Man, I am nervous about tomorrow's game. I am even more nervous about the weather as a rainout will mean that India is toast (again, barring an unlikely Bermuda win over the Bangles).

The coin toss tommorow will be crucial if, as expected, it is a cloudy morning i.e. you want to bowl first.

Just heard this. Utterly insane that such a massive figure in the game could have been murdered during the World cup. I spose there are three options:

1) Outraged lunatic fan
2) Mafia betting ring
3) Somthing totally non-sport related

It sure is. So much speculation - I guess even if it was betting related it doesn't mean anything was fixed here, it could be anything like he was going to reveal offers that were made for info etc (as he was retiring). I'm still not sure how a planned killing wouldn't have finished him off at the time and not just left him unconcious. So sad.

Alan Donald said on the radio today that the world cup should be stopped, but that would be a huge mistake IMO. Harsh as it sounds, the show must go on.

The players have been fingerprinted and are unable to leave the country. Looks like there are more than one perpetrator, utterly insane.

Totally agree with you., but this murder is going to entirely overshadow the rest of this tournament.

No doubt, especially if anything comes out of it involving betting rings etc. I was really looking forward to seeing India V Sri Lanka today but it will start off, at least, with a strange atmosphere.
