Re: Atlantic city impressions
Regarding the Taj:
[ QUOTE ] There were definitely a lot of degenerate people playing here and lots of young Soprano-looking punks who just seemed to be looking for trouble. This was seriously the most hostile environment I've played in. [/ QUOTE ] I play there every weekend and never really thought of it this way. I find this hilarious. |

Re: Atlantic city impressions
One thing I dislike about Atlantic City is that they seem to charge you for parking at the hotels.
State tax from the state not the casino. The state collects the money from the parking fees and put the money into the education system. I guess I just didn't see any of the really bad areas. Next time your in town, send me a pm and I can take you to some Hope I don't get a bill for $500 in the mail because I didn't pay the freaking $.50 toll. You might rabbit, you might. and my next stop is... Tunica, Mississippi. Wish me luck Good luck, play some Pot limit Omaha and place a Mississippi stradle |

I guess I just didn't see any of the really bad areas. [/ QUOTE ] You missed 85% of the city. In general, stay on/near the boardwalk and casinos or The Walk (shopping district) and you're more or less fine. There have been some improvements from when I was a kid, but most of the city is still ghetto. Also: the toll booth thing: I underpaid one by .15 a few years ago. They sent a pciture of my car w/ license, and a $25 fine a week or so later. I only had like .35 in the car after just cleaning it out and this toll didn't have a live operator to break bills. I paid the .35 though, so this seemed a little unfair. |

Missed Tolls
I went through a toll booth on the New Jersey Turnpike without paying, I had no cash so I went through the EZ-Pass toll. The next day I called EZ Pass and they told me how to pay it. I don't remember a $20 charge. But I was proactive about calling.

[/ QUOTE ] Hey Daytripping, your observation really rings a bell with me. I was born and raised in Jersey. It’s not just the casinos man it’s the whole friggin state. There are so many mafia wannabe types in Jersey it’s hilarious. Just don’t make eye contact and you’ll be ok. If you have ever seen a Robert De Niro movie, you know when he says, “You talking to me, are you talking to me!” or “Are you looking at me” or “Are you staring at my girlfriend, man?” It’s just typical. Yeah I know, I just stereotyped a whole state but I can speak as an authority, I was one of those idiots many many years ago. And Urko888 just didn’t notice; probably too busy making money. [ QUOTE ] [ QUOTE ] Misc [img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img] One thing I dislike about Atlantic City is that they seem to charge you for parking at the hotels. When I left the Borgata I was disturbed to find that I would have to pay $5 just to leave. Is it not enough that people go there and drop money at your tables? You also have to nickel and dime them on the way out? [/ QUOTE ] Nice report! FYI....The parking fee in AC is NOT being charged by the Casinos.....It is a State fee that they are forced to collect 'per car'. That's why you can get a transfer and bounce from Casino to Casino with it. [/ QUOTE ] From what i recall, the city/state charge is like 2-3$, the casinos that charge more do it on their own and pocket the difference. [/ QUOTE ] You are correct sir. Pursuant to N.J.S.A. 5:12-173.2, a charge shall be imposed for the use of a parking space for the purpose of parking, garaging or storing a motor vehicle in a parking facility or property owned or leased by a casino hotel or by any person on behalf of a casino hotel. The minimum amount of such charge is currently $3.00 per day. The charge imposed pursuant to such section, including any charges over and above the minimum charge, is subject to the 7% sales tax because it is not a “receipt subject to tax pursuant to any other law or ordinance.” N.J.S.A. 54:32B-3 (i). The sales tax must be reported and remitted on the casino hotel’s sales and use tax returns |
