Id rather be friends with someone who doesnt spell grammar correctly than someone who points out the fact that you shouldnt end a sentence with a preposition.

[/ QUOTE ]
Heh, fair enough. I care far more about the spelling and the common mistakes that OP cited than sentence structure or things like ending a sentence with a preposition, which I consider something way too minor to be nitty about.

it sucks but sometimes enough morons are incorrect that they change the rule.

It bothers me immensely that "I could care less" is generally accepted now, despite that it's obviously nonsensical.

Yeah, in fact there are times when breaking from proper sentence structure works better in dialog, so when typing conversationally it can work. But "should of," and "could care less," and other similar mistakes are pretty clear examples of ignorance.

Dude,

"Could care less" drives me batshit insane, yet it constantly gets (mis)used. Everwhere.

I just ran a query on the past month over all 2+2 forums. This thread excepted, there are 109 instances of "could care less" vs. only 36 instances of "couldn't care less". Granted, a number of those are merely quoting the statement, but it's fair to assume that such distribution is roughly equal. Pathetic.

GD I hate this one. This semester I got this essay prompt from a history professor, she's got a phd for christ's sake!

"Analyze the class structure in "Brave New World" from its inception to its function. Please do not describe the different strata and their responsibilities but take a critical look at why each class is constructed and how this stratification and construction is accomplished and maintained. Who are the winners and who are the loosers in this world? Why do the winners and the loosers accept their New World?"

Have vs. of: (this one's a new one for me, but it's really, really, really bad...)
Right: "I should have raised there!"
Wrong: "I should of raised there!"

[/ QUOTE ]

Hmm. So when would you say "should of" done something?

[/ QUOTE ]

fluffpop you're wrong about irregardless. it sucks but sometimes enough morons are incorrect that they change the rule. irregardless is a word.

[/ QUOTE ]

True, but it shouldn't be. Alright is also in some dictionaries, but they're both fabrications.

The only reason I'd even know this is because I just had a midterm in Media Writing and 2/3 of it was grammar.
