Weird thing is 20 years ago. Tons of of pictures of UFO's,Lochness and Bigfoot.Today every putz has a video phone or digital camera and no pictures. Re: Do you believe in aliens?
There is an interesting caveat that goes along with this entrie discussion that I think is pretty interesting to think about. I believe it was put forth as a possible resolution of Fermi's paradox. The idea is that once a civilization reaches a level of advancement where it is capable of engaging in space travel and also interstellar communication, it has also develop the technology to destroy itself. Basically the thinking is that any civilization that has become advanced enough to reach out and contact another has destroyed itself through its own technology before it really had the chance.
When looking at the earth and the human race as an example the implication is pretty scary. Humanoids have been around quite awhile and within the last 100 years we have developed space travel and we have also developed the type of weapons technology with which to end our existence on earth, and we have already had several close calls with nuclear winter. It seems as if the path of all intelligent civilizations were to be graphed one would see a period of robusto followed by a seemingly inevitable "doomswitch" of technology at which point everybody goes busto. |

Re: Do you believe in aliens?
If you accept the notion that life began on earth about 4 billion years ago, and you believe that laws of probability make certain the existence of extra-terrestrial life, then it seems obvious that some of these E.T.s would be advanced beyond our imagination.
Think about how far the human race has come in the last 100 years, and then consider what a planet with just an extra million years of evolution would be like. |
