Default Solution to Darfur?

Or other genocides/ethnic cleasnings/etc.

This idea hasn't been fleshed out a whole lot in my mind. Thought I'd just toss it out for discussion and see where it goes.

If a concerned group could put together the necessary funds, could a Private Military Corporation such as Blackwater or North Bridge be hired to go into Darfur and fix the problem?

Here are the issues I don't know enough about to answer my own question:
-The legal ramifications of a nonprofit or other organization sending a military force into a sovereign nation.
-The reaction of the international community (the US government, other governments, the UN, etc.)
-The cost of the operation and the ability to raise the encessary funds.
-Liability in the case of any sort of incident.

Basically, this just popped into my head the other day and I thought, why not make some use of these PMC's?

I posted this over on DailyKos as well, but I'm pretty sure all the hippies will hate this idea simply because it involves PMC's.

It wouldn't be feasible. The cost could easily run into the hundreds of millions of dollars.

It could also result in unforeseen consequences. Sudan claims the PMC's are staging out of Egypt and Sudan and Egypt wind up in a border war.

Try googling Mark Thatcher for more info.

Yeah, I know all about Mark Thatcher, and Executive Outcomes.

I think in some situations a wider war starting might be a problem but with Sudan I'm not sure it is. Sudan would be crazy to start a war with Egypt, or pretty much most other countries. Not to mention, the government is trying to maintain a distance from the rebels doing the killing - though it's clear they are acting with the governments permission (if not full support).

What's Darfur and what's going on there? I didn't see anything on the news, just some stuff about Britney Spears and Anna Nicole Smith.

Concerned,
US population

I've thought about this before. I think an easy intermediate step is just to give everyone guns.

Give everyone involved guns. This should slow down the massacre or speed it up.

There are private armies in Africa. The international community doesn't like them, but they get the job done sometimes.

Should the response to a private military corporation be any different than the response to a non-state religious militia? (Is there any reason why an organization couldn't be both?)
