Default Heads up blind question

When you are down to 2 players is the button the big blind or small blind? I have seen it played both ways in cash and tourney games. Is one way the CORRECT way or is it casino/house choice? We have some home game players lately that have decided to make a big argument about this? I would like to take something in writing (to stop the bickering) the next time we play. Thanks for your help.

4. In heads-up play with two blinds, the small blind is on the button.

From Robert's Rules.

Set a house rule and stick to it. It is really up to the two who are playing unless it is a tourney.

Usually, the button is also the big blind and it is up to the guy out of position.

We used to play where the dealer ante was a live five. The other guy put in a blind of ten. It was five up to the dealer. Until a few years ago, we played 1,2,5 with a live dealer ante. The one was dropped to speed things up.

I've always thought that it was more standard for the button to be SB.

Edit, quote from "Robert's Rules" (as definitive a source as any), linked in above post:
