Default what backup software?

I am looking for a solution that will allow me to back-up my system in a non proprietary manner.( to an external drive). I prefer sonething that allows me to pick the files using a "windows explorer" type interface or something of the like.

What do you folks use and why?

Based on this description, Windows Explorer would be ideal.

Need much, much more information. Frequency, size, speed requirements? Budget? Objective (ie, how fast to you need to be up and running again)?

If you are using XP the free SyncToy by Microsoft is really nice. Link
I use this program to back up the same files/folders on a very regular basis to another computer on my network and also to an external HD.

No need in me explaining it all when Microsoft does a better job of it. Heck download it and give it a try. It's quick, easy and very simple.
