I'm a nl player in ac and while i know theres usually little to no difference in table composition/possible win rates and 1/2. I've played in some 2/5 games comparable to 10/25C online and some that are total rock gardens. So my question is how do you guys table select live, particularly when there isn't open seating (ie you cant just get up and go sit at another table), do you ask floors for a table change until you find your ideal table or what?

Many times the table I'm on is the only table running at that limit. Kinda makes selection easy.

Ask for the next table change when you get in a bad game. Then keep your ears open and try to listen for the tables with a lot of all-ins and rebuys. Walk around when your not in a hand and watch the other games.

Just get up from your table and watch a couple hands at a few of the other tables. Check out the stack sizes, the number of players to flop and look for familiar faces. When you decide what table you want, go up to the floor man and specifically request a change to that table, show him a little gratuity and I am sure he will kindly oblige your request.

Have to ask the floor.
If your table is bad enough, its "First available change". Otherwise, get up and eyeball the other tables at your limit. Then ask the floor, "First available change to Table 12 or Table 23, but not Table 4". Clubs I go to, they allow you to choose your preference for a table change. Either way, it should be 'first request that fits get the change'. More from a Limit perspective: How much money is on the table and how it is distributed. Players smiling vs serious. Do I recognize any Donators or Sharks? Personally, I try to find out where I am on the 'change list', ie first, third. Then I keep an eye/ear out for an open seat. |

There is a difference in possible win rates and table selection is a big reason why. Ask the floor as soon as you want to change and then in between hands check out the other games. Hopefully you'll have an idea of what games are good by looking at them.
I used to drive myself crazy with table changes and wouldn't be able to concentrate on my own game. I decide some time ago to stay at a table for about half an hour before I ask. |

The more you play in a room at a certain game, the more you will get to know the players.
A good example, the is a pretty good LAG that plays in my regular spread limit game. When he is playing good, he is tough to beat, when he is playing bad, he is an ATM. BUT having him at the table greatly changes the dynamic, making just about any table he is at +EV, even over one with a spewing drunk. Others have already touched on the other things to look for. |

The more money on the table, the better.
$2000 on a 3/6 table. $200 each? $400 in front of each the two 'gamblers' and smaller stacks for the rest? One guy with $800 who looks like he is about to leave? |
