Default GOOD NEWS FOR FLORIDA POKER PLAYERS

I just read this in the Palm Beach Post

[ QUOTE ]
Characters like Chris "Jesus" Ferguson, "Texas Dolly" Brunson and "The Duchess of Poker" Annie Duke could find their way to Florida under a bill that won approval Thursday from a House committee. The bill, from Rep. Joe Gibbons, D-Hallandale Beach, would pave the way for the state's pari-mutuel cardrooms to hold high-stakes poker tournaments like the World Series of Poker or Tournament of Champions events. The bill would limit one tournament in the state every six months and require the card game to be televised. The House Committee on Business Regulation unanimously approved the bill (HB 223).

But how many big names would bother without decent sidegames?

That is soooo laughable. The biggest problem is, like Bremen pointed out, that you aren't going to get any major players here to play 1/2 and 2/2 ring games. And I don't think you can force anything to be televised.

I agree not many good players will come because no side games but.......... Now just hear me out I am just stating a projected idea they might try to pitch to the pros.

You put it in a either Hollywood or Tampa Hard Rock. You then promise the pros other benefits like the beach and crap like that. I don't know how they would do it, but if there was a tourney in Ft Lauderdale I am sure players like Danny N who cries about the food in tunica would show up and play. Ft Lauderdale is a yuppie town and they are all yuppies anyways. These pros also know that if they put up with no side games for a year or two the state Goverment would see the turnout and increase the betting higher.

Also I don’t think it would be two difficult to get the game on TV, with the ban on online gaming a lot of the TV shows will go by the waste side soon and this would be something new.

This sentence makes no sense from a business standpoint.

Online poker going away means many people will stop watching on TV.

A new TV show is flooding a market with shrinking demand.

"Something new", just because it's in a different location, isn't logical.

And it's "wayside".

And expect the juice pulled from the tournament entries to be huge for the casino's. I seen an ad just yesterday for a tournament at the Jacksonville dog track with 360 players at $45 each and only paying out $11,000 back to players with $5000 to win. That is $5200 for the casino!!!!!!!!!!!! Absurd. That is 32 percent for the casino. I live in Florida but can fly out of Orlando direct to Vegas for under $250 and in less than 5 hour flight. Cheaper visit Vegas a few times per year in long run than giving all the rake to the casino's here.

No way the pros play (or really anyone) with that kind of rake.

No pros, no TV.

I'm glad some of you don't run these casinos.

I think the only positive to really take out of this is maybe it will soften up legislators for future game expansion. This on its own won't make a huge splash.

The Hard Rocks are Seminole casinos, not parimutuels. The Legislature has no jurisdiction over the Seminoles. The other problem here is that all the parimutuels are dumps with no hotels and nothing in their surrounding areas except a Motel 6 or a Red Roof Inn or some other dumpy little drive up motels.

That name-dropping of the pros in that article is just the newspaper reporter who doesn't know squat writing some wild-ass speculation to give his lead a little bit of juice.
