I called and spoke with someone at Barney Franks office.
Here's an email that I just sent to Carolyn McCarthy: Dear Congresswoman McCarthy, I am writing to you as an Oceanside resident, a constituent and an avid Poker player. It has come to my attention that Barney Frank has begun work on having the Unlawful Internet Enforcement Gambling Act Repealed. In my opinion, it is absurd that an American citizen should not be permitted to play a game of Poker- a game of skill in his own home, on his or her own computer. I have already contacted Mr. Frank to thank him for his support and I am writing you in hopes that you will support this effort to protect our right to play poker and ultimately our civil liberty. Thank you for your time, Dr. Edward Wile Oceanside, NY |

![]() Senator Coleman, Thank you for reading this. I am writing you in regards to the Unlawful Internet Gaming Enforcement Act that was attached to an unrelated bill and was passed last year. As an avid poker player and one who has limited transportation to and from casinos and cardrooms in Minnesota, this law is a detriment to me. I urge you to work to repeal this silly law. It was not passed in good faith; gambling websites do more than people think to insure that no underage gambling goes on. The argument that "gambling is immoral" is also insufficient, as there are carve-outs in the bill making horse betting, etc. exempt, not to mention that I do not believe Minnesotans would like the federal government telling us what is and isn't moral. I see that in the House, a Mr. Barney Frank is thinking to repeal this law. Again, I ask you to listen to him, work with him, and perhaps start a bill in the Senate addressing this issue. Poker is a distinctly American activity, and as the world turns more and more to the Internet for its communication, entertainment, and income, such an American activity should not be barred to Americans. Again, thank you for your time. |

Message sent to Congressman Brian Higgins!
I checked the Act Blue site and there are is about $7 donated to Barney Frank. Should we start contributing to his cause? Honestly, I thought the push for Jim Pederson worked out well, and it appears Frank is as deserving. Perhaps a little encouragement may not be a bad idea. |

Senator Klobuchar,
Thank you for reading this. I offer you late congratulations on your Senate win; I voted for you and contributed to your campaign. As I'm sure you are aware, the Unlawful Internet Gambling Enforcement Act, attached to an unrelated bill, was passed last year by a Mr. Frist. It is fitting that the name of the bill starts with "unlawful", as it violates Americans' civil liberties to deposit and withdraw money from gambling websites. As an avid poker player, this law is a great detriment to me. I see that in the House, Mr. Barney Frank is already working on a way to repeal this silly law. I ask you to speak with him and perhaps see if you can get something similar started in the Senate. Poker is a distinctly American activity, and although it may have been in the 109th Congress' interests to violate civil liberties, I am positive the 110th Congress will work to correct those mistakes. Thank you for your time. |

Congressman Oberstar, Late congratulations on your win last November. I voted for you. Last year, the 109th Congress passed the Unlawful Internet Gambling Enforcement Act as pork attached to a port security bill. As an avid poker player and believer in civil liberties, this is outrageous. If an adult wishes to play poker online once in awhile, I believe that that should not be infringed. Mr. Barney Frank is already working to repeal this silly law, and I ask you to speak with him and work with him to get this repeal passed. Poker is a distinctly American activity, and while the 109th Congress made it their job to step on the civil rights of Americans, I am confident the 110th will work to correct their errors. Thanks again for your time.
