There's a lot of good material out there for small businesses startup ventures, wealth accumulation, e-commerce, entrepeneurs, etc. Unfortunately there is also a lot or useless material also. I would like to hear some recommendations for some of the better one's out there. I heard the rich dad poor dad series was good. Anyrecommendations would be appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Mr. Now made a great post recommending an online essay and a book that could be purchased talking about businesses and how to start one. I forgot the name of the book (I have it) and don't feel like getting up to look right now, but perhaps some other friendly soul will remember what I'm talking about and tell you.

I'm reading it right now. It's really not so much a "how-to" guide, but more of an academic study of the factors that differentiate successful startups from other business ventures such as corporate product offerings.
It is quite interesting though, and I'm enjoying it. |

art of the start by guy kawasaki
best book out there, hands down. also, check out both his and then josh koppelman's blogs: http://blog.guykawasaki.com/ http://firstround.typepad.com/redeye/ if you need to know their credentials, just wiki them. for lazy people, guy started at apple, now owns his own vc firm. josh (among other things) did half.com, sold it to ebay for a boatload of cash, and now owns his own vc as well... |

I just recently bought Made to Stick. It's on marketing, and the premise is great. I've yet to get too deep into it yet though, so I can't really give any kind of analysis on it beyond the fact that it seems promising and informative thus far.

One book I read several years ago that covered a wide range of information (but still went into sufficient detail for a novice) is Entrepreneur Magazine's Start Your Own Business. I read the 3rd edition, but it looks like they have the 4th edition available on 4/1.

i read and did a 30-some page report on ORIGIN AND EVOLUTION OF NEW BUSINESSES for my New Ventures class last semester; i do highly recommend the book
rich dad poor dad is a good motivating book to get people interested, but there are many many other books out there that are more accurate and more informative...but as a light reading to get a casual person into the arena, it's not bad my favorite book is Why Not...it's about innovation and tools to use to come up with innovative ideas and businesses... |
