Default Help for my 1st Vegas trip

i'm a first-time poster, LONG time lurker. i am going on my 1st trip to Vegas and wanted to know if you think it's wise for me to play small stakes cash games or stick to small stakes tournies. my friends (who i think aren't very good players) think that i will lose all my money if i play $2-4 cash games (i don't want to play $1-2 b/c i've read from many people that too many people call with anything).

about my poker background, i play frequently where i live - mostly home tournies. i play small stakes online. i've read several poker books including HOH, Sklansky. I do pretty well when i play. even when i don't win, i come close. i'm known as a solid, tight aggressive player.

i would appreciate any constructive advice. i don't think i'd be in over my head if i played $2-4, but i feel that you guys have more experience than my friends who i don't think really know how to play (i.e. they think any Ace-high hand is good...). thanks!

This is a reason to why I'd want to play 1/2.

Yeah, I hate it when they call with anything. I mean, I got AA right, dude calls me with T7 offsuit. I mean, what an idiot. Then the flop comes T82, okay. Dude calls my flop bet, okay, he's got top pair, but he should know I'm not bluffing. Anyway, turn is a 6 now he's got a straight draw too. So I bet, and he PUSHES. What the heck is that about? I call, I mean I got AA right, so I have to call. River is a King, so he misses, but I'm like what an idiot, they call with anything.

You play no-limit right? You won't find 2/4 spread really, but 2/5 is a much more common game. The play at 1/2 isn't as donkish as you'd think, and you will probably earn MORE in these games than at the 2/5 games. Here are some things you should check out:

MGM Grand - Nice room, good games, good dealers, plenty of tables - definitely check it out. Drink girls aren't that smoking.

Wynn - What a totally pimp casino, and from the poker room you can see plenty of nice tail wandering through. Cocktail girls might be the hottest in Vegas. They spread a 1/3 uncapped game, so if you feel like playing some deepstacked it's a good place. The retarded $3 chips are annoying, though.

Venetian - Another swank casino with hot girls and a beautiful card room. The dealers were weak when I was last there, but it was new at the time. They spread 1/2.

Bellagio - Ahh, the Mecca of poker. I don't think they spread 1/2, and the competition at the 2/5 game is pretty fierce for a typical low stakes player - but sitting so close to the big game and being in that atmosphere is a religious experience. Absolute must play.

Caesers Palace - Kinda dumpish, but the games are good and there's a decent sportsbook directly outside of the poker room.

Enjoy your pilgrimage!

Also, you really should post in the B&M forum, those guys will have WAYYY better advice than this forum.

The answer is that every 1/2 game is Vegas is soft. Just find a room where they have more than 1 table of it running and you are good to go. I did well about a year ago int he abomination that Paris calls a poker.
