Default i love to cap

5/10 limit draw game

folded to me in the cutoff with AA99 - the button folds - the SB calls and the BB 3 bets

the SB and the BB are excellent winning players - the others arent - the SB is usually quick to find the raise button - maybe it belies my description of excellent player that he cold called this hand but its a small infrequent leak in his game at worst - he has a big pocket pair AA or KK or maybe a weak 2 pair

the BB and i have played a lot of limit draw together - we recently agreed to a truce at heads up - he is even quicker with the raise button and his only real leak is a bit of tilt from time to time

both the SB and BB know i love attacking the blinds so my opening range is broad and the BB knows what i know about the SB

so i cap - auto ?

If I'm correct in assuming that you're stiffqueen this is a cap.

I think so, you want as a few pairs as possible playing in this hand if you're up against trips then so be it.

The small blind likely has KK or AA. If he is an excellent
player, he would have reraised with two pairs or better.

The big blind should be reraising with any two pairs or
better since your opening requirements could be JJ+ with
some hands such as TTXYZ (X,Y,Z >= J), TTAXx and a few
semibluffing hands.

Aces up will be the best hand before the draw more than half
the time in this situation so this is worth capping with.
Also, if you are known to open light in this spot, you MUST
cap it with this hand, just in case the big blind is playing
exploitively (he may be reraising on a draw or just AA) so
the choice is clear.

i thought cap was a more controversial decision but obviously not

what i like about capping pre-draw in spots such as this is what it buys in informatioin about the hand - this hand the SB folded and the BB drew 2 - if i had just called so would the SB and i think the BB would take a more standard line - drawing 1 and betting post draw

i drew 3 to AA, missed and folded to a post draw bet comfortably - so i got to look stupid capping my 1 pair hand - saved half a big bet - and had the luxury of making the correct drawing decision
