Which Book Should I Write Next?

Why not a book that uses poker to teach algebra? Poker is an excellent learning tool for kids as well as adults because it's fun and the results are easily shown in concrete ways (i.e. if you do the math right, you usually win more than you lose)

When I taught Management in a university, I used poker as an illustration and comparison over and over because I think that way. One of the most popular topics was tells.

The question is concerning your book No Limit Hold'em - Theory and Pratice page 216.

You write the following EV equation:
0=(0.935)($3)+(0.0645)[(0.433)($X+$3)+(0.567)(-$X)]

Shouldn't the part [(0.433)($X+$3)+(0.567)(-$X)] have been [(0.433)($X-$1+$3)+(0.567)(-$X)]?

Your opponent has already put a $2 big blind while you have only put the $1 small blind. When you push he therefore only has to call $X-$1.

For hands with high Sklansky-Chubukov numbers, like the AK hand in the example, this difference in the EV equation is of little practical importance, but i would guess that the difference in the Sklansky-Chubukov number for a hand like Q4 would be significantly affected by the extra $1.

A SIMPLE GUIDE TO "THE THEORY OF POKER", well, not only a simple guide but a update to the new trends of the game (the nl exponential growth versus fl, the tournaments, and the changes of playing "old" times poker versus the new age poker)

without my selfish hat:
ALGEBRA FOR TEN YEAR OLDS, if you where able to bring to algebra (and math) what you brought to poker it would be a tremendous world benefit.

my opinion:
would love to read a book with inside information about the world of poker....not the tables story's, but the backstage, the lobby's, the mafia, the all mighty and untouchables casinos that don't pay a dime for taxes, the sad personal stories of once great players, the good and specially promiscuous side of the world of poker.

Hopefully, you can find someone to back this claim up on your book jacket. Using the phrase "trust me...I'm almost the best" is not going to cut it.

Growing up in the 80's algebra was taught in 8th and 9th grade to most students. 8th and 9th graders were anywhere from 13 to 15. Although I was an excellent math student in elementary school there was not any chance for anyone to take algebra. So a book on Algebra for 10-year olds seems like a terrible idea although it may sell well at private schools for rich kids in the northeast. The subtitle "for those who think like them" is not flattering for anyone over the age of ten and implies that anyone over 10 reading the book is thinking at a lower level than a 10 year old.

How about writing a story about Sammy a kid who parents give him a copy of sim-universe to play with. He sets up the universe, and then selects a planet where the simulation has generated some intellection apes to play with. He creates a few avatars to play head games with them and does some fun stuff like using the editor to create some floods and generate a lot of water creatures out of nowhere etc…

Eventually he uses a poker player as an avatar to do more of the same, trying to see if he can taunt any of the sims to guess the truth. Eventually trying to prove some point to a load of computer simulations, he decides to change the mass energy conversion parameter every time some simulation sports team won. Unfortunately the first time he tried this the universe did an automatic reboot.

He never managed to get the simulator to recreate the fun monkey men again.

I'd really like to see this. At all kinds of levels, stacks, and tournament/cash game situations, too. I'd love to see what you find interesting and why. I'd love to see 50 interesting hands that demonstrate concepts as well as exceptions.

I would not like to read about algebra.

I don't need a self-help book on how poker is going to make me live my life better.

And TOP is pretty great as it is. No need to rehash a classic just to make it easier for people to read. Besides, there are PLENTY of beginner's books. You really don't need to add another one.
