Re: am i annoying or effective
I've found that the great majority of players that do this aren't that good at poker.
I've also found that most are also pretty miserable in life. Most people would just mute your chat. It's easier just to show some class and not be an ass. Though these days that seems like a tall order for most. b |

Re: am i annoying or effective
on Stars one day I saw this guy literally bust everyone at the table *except for me luckily!* 6-handed by trashtalking nonstop. The way he mocked everyone was unreal...it was a weak enough $2/4 nlh game but a couple of the players talked back to the guy, and he proceeded to berate them...with a touch of wit and a hell of a lot of offensive material. In the end, two guys just gifted the guy their stacks, one by raising ai for like $650 into a $200 pot with 77 on a QxxKx board, and the other stacking off with middle pair for antoher $1,000+ pot. It was poetry in motion. After the game had broken up, and I sat out coz i didnt want to play a guy headsup who was clearly a good player or at least was playing pretty good that session.
I asked him "why be such a scumbag?"...and he sat there for the next 5-10 mins explaining that he's not really like that in real life, but that he does it to tilt his opponents. Small sample size, but in this guy's case it seemed effective. |

Re: am i annoying or effective
Be honest, you don't do it because you think it improves your game, and puts your opponnents on tilt. You do it because you think it's cool, and it make you feel big. An occassional well timed needle to set some one off is fine, and can be a valuable tool, but for the most part just be a gentleman and people will be happy to continue giving you their money.

Oh, almost forgot. Talk [censored] excessively or abusively enough, and you can get your account banned or suspended at FT. That's about as -EV as it gets.
