Street by Street
Shorthanded game on the Internet. I have A [img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img]5 [img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img] in the BB. A solid player open raises on the button. We play a lot. The SB folds, I call.
The flop comes 3 [img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img]6 [img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img]7 [img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img]. I check, villain bets and I call. The turn is the 8 [img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img]. I check, he checks behind. The river is the J [img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img]. I bet, he raises almost instantly. I call. Thoughts? Re: Street by Street
I don't think I like or understand why b/c > c/c on the river but I'm more interested in your plan had he bet the turn. I tend to c/c, c/c, c/f if I don't c/r the flop.

Re: Street by Street
Why on earth did you bet the river given that you took such a passive line throughout the hand? That makes no sense.

Re: Street by Street
i c/r the flop.
EDIT: actually, i may not here. the river is awesome if he will bluff-raise KQ. |

Re: Street by Street
This is how I play when I'm losing. It shouldn't be very surprising that I continue to lose when I play like this. I'd c/r the flop and work from there. If you had c/r the flop then this is a fantastic turn card for you to take down the pot against a better Ace. As played until the river I think that c/f the river may be the best line, with c/c being next. Anything involving more than one bet I hate.

Re: Street by Street
I was planning on checkraising the turn. No, I don't do this every time.

Re: Street by Street
Ok, here are my thoughts. Generally, I think that my river play on this hand wouldn't be optimal. But, this is why I did it:
A) I didn't think this particular opponent would check the turn with either a good ace or legitimate hand in a blind steal confrontation. If he had a strong hand, that is an action board so why not bet and hope to get raised? B) It just seemed like he figured I was probably going to call down with ace high or checkraise a strong hand and/or a good ace here. So he checked the turn with the plan to raise the river if I bet in hopes I will interpret it as a slowplay by him and fold a small pair or a good ace high I bet for value. If I checked, he would realize I was check calling with a probable ace high and wouldn't bluff, but if I bet he will figure that a raise is his only way to win the hand. C) He raised almost instantly which was another small clue (to me) that he was trying to imply a strong hand than actually having one D) I just felt like I had the best hand Again, debatable, maybe too opponent specific to discuss. But I bet with the intention of calling a raise here against THIS player. Jeff |

My opponent showed K10 and my hand was good. What do we think of his play?
