Re: I play good (lc)
So are you guys saying you're not 3bet here very often at all?
The inability of average players to bet/fold a blocking bet may be something I should be trying to exploit ... |

Re: I play good (lc)
I think it's becasue they don't think they are making a blocking bet.
They think they are making a value bet, but becasue thier hand is marginal, they make a small value bet & just hope & pray that the opponent doesn't charge them more than they wanted to pay. But they aren't thinking about thier bet in terms of what hands the opponent will raise with. It's all very self-oriented. |

Re: I play good (lc)
Rarely do folks make such small bets on the river when they have a hand they want to 3 bet with. Hero's raise very nicely prices him in to call a hand he seems resolved to showdown.
The post-oak lead is so weak here that it doesn't even qualify as one. |

Re: I play good (lc)
[ QUOTE ]
[ QUOTE ] I never raise those freaky river minbets from an unknown, becasue I'm afraid of re-opening the betting. In most cases, won't he just fold when he has something you beat? Under normal circumstances, you will either fold out a worse hand or give $9 more to a better hand. [/ QUOTE ] I don't think he ever makes this bet with a hand I can't beat. The flush missed and there are no real straights out there. I've learned from bluff raising too many rivers that most players can't bring themselves to fold after making a blocking type bet on the river. [/ QUOTE ] Wow. This is quite enlightening. I've literally never raised one of those $1 on the river bets with a hand like yours because I just assumed that either 1) villain would fold to *any* action and was just hoping I had the check/fold button pressed or 2) villain was baiting a reraise. I think that's kind of a self-fulfilling prophecy: given that outlook, I'm either calling or making a sizeable re-raise. So, when I bet, I either get a fold or a big hand. Thanks! |

Re: I play good (lc)
I dont like calling raises with AJ AT or Big cards.... always seems to end up in tears.....
If you think about what your opponents raising range could be just considering the good raising hands it puts you in a bad spot pre flop... your dominated by AA,AK,AQ,JJ Behind vs KK QQ and in a coinflip with 1010 and below.... and unless you had a good read on your opponent ( or data that suggested different) your putting yourself in a bad spot from the off even on the button.... But you showed great positional play from then on in ... The problem with calling a raise with these type hands IMO is that you can often find your self flopping something decent and get to the SD and find out you where behind all along and end up losing a ton of chips... the safest way to play these hands is to dump them to a raise.. there are better spots to play these hands (open raising pre flop in position etc calling after a limper or two etc) |

Re: I play good (lc)
I like responding to threads based solely on the topic line.
No you don't. jk, actually very nicely played hand. You could probably raise the river to about $20 and still get paid off, but all in all, I like the play. |

Re: I play good (lc)
yeah, optimal river bet is probably $5-$20 somewhere. I don't mind opening the betting back up, because villian will almost never bluff here and you can fold pretty fast to any type of 3-bet.
