Re: Pistol Pete
[ QUOTE ]
44.5ppg for a NCAA div.1 career will never be topped. [/ QUOTE ] This is one of my favorite records. The Pistol was so awesome. IIRC, the 2nd place guy on the list averaged 36 ppg, so no one's even come close. |

Re: Pistol Pete
yeah, it's an awesome record.
and obviously done before the 3-point shot. Even a stud in a mid-major would be considered fantastic just to avg 35 or something. So perhaps I can put it in the 'unbeatable' category. Just thinking of guys who would normally have potential to score 30 ppg if they played for a good team in a crappy conference. |

Re: Pistol Pete
To the best of my skimming ability, no one has mentioned Nolan Ryan's strikeout record of 5714. That one's not going anywhere. Roger Clemens and Randy Johnson, two of baseball's most dominant strikeout pitchers ever, both of whom are playing into their 40's, aren't even close...each a little over 4500. One of them would have to pitch another 6-7 years at their current levels to even come close.

Most 3's in a Tourney game: Jeff Fryer, 11. Pretty small list of guys who would even take 12 in a game, much less hit them all, [or 12 of 15, etc] |

Re: Most unbeatable record
[ QUOTE ]
but Sir Donald Bradman's 99.9 career batting average in Test cricket is gonna take some breaking, considering no one else in the history of the sport is over about 61. [/ QUOTE ] This has to be the biggest gulf in sports between a guy who holds the top spot with a particular stat and his closest rival. It truly is remarkable. BTW, you say that #2 is at 61..is that Ponting? 61 is pretty damn remarkable in itself. |

Re: Most unbeatable record
Im glad noone in here mention dimaggios hitting streak
It always pissed me off when someone mentions that its the most unbreakable record. Its more of a flukey streak than anything. Eventally someone will get every break in the world and beat it. Noone is throwing 3 no-hitters in a row or winning 512 games.3 grand slams wont happen either but I think 3 homers in an inning would be more likely than 3 no hitters in a row. I wish Clemens got some run support the last 2 years and would stop dickering around and pitch the whole season because he woulda had a shot at 400 wins. |

Re: Most unbeatable record
For single season records, Wayne Gretzky's 52-game point streak has to be in the "virtually unbreakable" category.
