Re: Home Casino Night - I get to be the house!
[ QUOTE ]
Statistically though, playing as the house is my best spot for turning a profit, right? [/ QUOTE ] Of course. You have to be prepared to deal with major variance, though. Remember that your friends will have the option to quit playing if they lose too much, where you really don't have that option. You might want to take this question to the probability forum to see if someone there can help you come up with an exact bankroll requirement for this night (you could give yourself something like a 5% chance of going broke) - it may be higher than you think. The other thing I would recommend is that you choose games where the other players have the most chance of making mistakes - you could phrase it as offering more "interesting" games where they get to make choices. Remember that while blackjack has a small house edge, that only if the players play correct basic strategy. If your friends don't know bs, or don't bother to use it, your edge will increase substantially. To that end, I'd play war early in the night (while people are still sober) and blackjack closer to the end. Drunk people hitting on 18 because they "feel lucky" is going to be very +EV for you. |

I was thinking that in Blackjack, the house only had a slight advantage when faced with perfect strategy. My friends have never read a book on poker/blackjack/gambling in their life. That is primarily why they love to play War so much - nothing to think about. I have seen one of my friends split Tens at Foxwoods, vs. a dealer's 8 showing. (you should have seen the table's reaction, lol). So, the house edge PLUS my friend's lack of betting/gambling strategies, just sound like too good of an opportunity to pass up. |

[ QUOTE ] Casino War and 3-Card Poker? Why not just drug your friends and steal their money? At least give the guys a chance; play craps at least. [/ QUOTE ] Yeah, because he probably owns a craps table. [/ QUOTE ] Since when has craps ever required a table? How dumb are you? |

Re: Home Casino Night - I get to be the house!
Too late to get the Keno board set up?
Also, download latest lines on NCAA basketball action for tonight, and offer a "sportsbook" type scenario (maybe $20 max bet or something). Lets the people who aren't into the specific game you're spreading (or already busto) have something to interest them while you're still busy dealing cards. That way you're not left with 2-3 gamboooolerz and 2-3 bored mofos having a crappy time and leaving early. |

Re: Home Casino Night - I get to be the house!
Yes I was refering to the famous thread. That set aside, I wouldn't suggest trying to be the host. If one of your friends hit it lucky, you will be taken for a big hit. I would suggest trying it another way, more fun for all. Let every player put up $50, all players putting ina equal amount, this will be considered the houses stake. You all gamble all night long and at the end of the night, you divide equally among all players what evers left of the bank roll. Even if a player loses diuring the night astleast he will get a portion back.

It sounds like you're advocating a Blackjack/War/3 card poker tournament with at $50 buy-in. That may be an ok thing to do but I know I would have a lot more fun taking the house side and taking the higher risk and the +EV. YMMV of course but if the OP has willing players and a reasonably bankroll, I don't really see any reason not to just be the house. |
