I'm considering getting a macbook for when I travel to Europe for a few months this summer. I like how it's lightweight, has a built in camera, and is picture friendly. However, I also want to play a bit of poker on my trip, so I was wondering how compatible macbooks are with poker software like pt, pah, and pokerstars.
Any other lightweight laptops that I should consider? Cheers |

Unless you are going to dual boot or run Parallels a mac really isn't much of a poker machine, not enough sites have software for it and I don't think any of the utilities have replacements for it either.

PokerStars client runs well on my MacBook using CrossOver but I can't get the Ultimate Bet client to run under it.

you can pretty much forget about mac native poker software.
party just pulled their native client (which was a joke anyway), don't know about other native poker clients. some sites (like party, ongame, etc.) have web/java clients but they normally do not compare well to the windows native download clients. there is some mac native pokertracker like tool. but it can't match the original. poker academy runs fine on mac...but its basically a java application so this isn't too much of a surprise. haven't tried running windows native poker software with crossover (or similar software) so can't comment on that route. but i have parallels running (with XP and all the usual poker software like party/stars clients, pt, pahud, etc.) running on my macbook without any problems for about 6 months now. so if you don't mind spending the extra bucks on licences for parallels and windows then this would definitely be a way to go. just one remark: i had some stability problems testing beta builds of the new parallels version. can't say too much about the final (released yesterday) yet. but the first parallels for mac version has been absolutely rock stable for me until now. hope this helps. |

FWIW, my main poker machine is a 15" MacBook Pro hooked up to a 2007FP. I use BootCamp, so I can't run Mac apps while playing in Windows, but it works out well. As another poster said, Stars runs reasonably well in Crossover, but I don't know about using PT and PAHUD through crossover.

![]() yeah, my main poker machine is a 15" macbook pro as well. I run xp under parallels. I've only had it crash once, but they have a new release I haven't tried yet. Also, PAHud and PT all run very well. runstop |

Thanks guys. The macbook seems like a big headache for want I want to use it for. Any suggestions for a relatively inexpensive, lightweight laptop?

I'm using a macbook that I converted entirely to XP (deleted all partitions somewhere in the bootcamp setup process and made one big XP partition) and I'm extremely happy with it.
