I got my swing speed measured today again.

It was like 85-95 for a 6 iron.

And like 115 for a driver.

I did manage to get my ball speed with the driver to 174mph at one point, which was off the charts. Booya skinny twings ftw.

Why you laughing~ they're nice clubs.

I'm 6'2 and I've been measured before. I have monkey arms so I didn't need anything special.

Hey guys,

I need to buy new irons. I'm like a 15-18 handicap right now probably and I'm pushing my irons a bit, so I'm looking for good oversize slightly offset irons.

Any suggestions on good new clubs?

i've got a set of mizunos i'll sell you. they're basically brand new. i dont remember the model but they're 2006 cavity backed w/ graphites. they're sweet. i started getting into a better/consistent groove so i bought some titleist blades.

also, can anyone care to explain this: i can legit carry a ball 290. carry. carried 300 before. i am extrememly long off the tee, but my swing speed has been measured at 105, which is low for that distance. very low.

any guesses?

Possible explanations:

1) You hit the ball in the center of the club, and have ideal launch conditions (high launch angle + low backspin)

2) You play in High Altitude (Colorado?)

3) Your course doesn't measure yardages properly.

4) You hit one 300 yards once, it was downhill and/or downwind, and now that's how far you think you hit it all the time (not a knock against you, but this is VERY common among golfers)

That's your first mistake. Offset irons are for hackers. Go to a reputable pro shop and get custom fit. It's worth the money and the usually knock it off the price or include it for free. I would suggest pings or taylor made's.

I used to be a 3-4 handicap in HS and college, now I'm about an 8-9. I play top flite tour irons...love 'em and their junk!!!!

This is a perfect example of well intended solid advice but not for the reasons the OP thinks. Ping and taylormades are great options, but depending on the Ping or TM model they can have a ton of offset (i.e. G5, G2, TM RAC OS, R7 etc).

There are a number of PGA tour, Champions Tour and LPGA tour players who use irons with a lot of offset. I currently play Ping i5's (4-9 iron) after playing Tommy Armour 845s for years. They are a moderate offset iron which I like alot. I then play cleveland wedges which have limited offset and a thinner sole. They seem to work well for me.
