Default Re: Cat Microwave Question More Explicitly Stated

If I knew that stopping his deed would make anyone's hand be cut off, I wouldn't want his deed stoped. I'd let a 1000 cats be tortured and killed to save the hand of anyone. I think the reason for that is that you can argue the value of an animal (and it depends on culture and other things), you can argue that an animal is just a thing that we humans can do with as we please, etc, etc. but I think its a lot harder to argue the value of someones hand. Even someone who thinks a cat is sacred and anyone who kills or tortures a cat should have his/her hand cut off. If you tell that person, "Ok, I like torturing and killing cats, cut my hand" but only if you let me cut your hand, because you like killing cockroaches and to me those are sacred", I think its very likely that the person will compromise, because all in all, they both will agree that a hand is worth saving even if it means torturing and killing any animal, just for the heck of it."
So the hand for me is out of the question. But how much discomfort would I want the torturer to go through if it stops a cat from being tortured and dying. Well, thats a hard one but I think I would accept discomfort on that person that is comparable to the average of what other people have suffered as a result of him killing the cat (maybe a tiny tiny tiny bit more to account for the cats sufferng).

For example if a little girl walking by sees the deed, and is horrified and starts crying. I would like something done to that man that makes him be horrified and start crying. Not because I care about the cat but because what he did had a negative effect on another human, and I do care about humans.

Two questions for those who have concrete positions one way or the other:

1) If you think chopping the hand is fine then:
1a) What about making the guy into a quadriplegic?
1b) What if the animal was a chicken?

2) If you don't think chopping the hand is fine then:
2a) What if the guy would (somehow) come down with a really nasty case of the flu for a week?
2b) What if he planned to do this to 100 cats (in sequence)?

People torturing cats possess much potential for also torturing humans.

thats deep brotha, if he were to torture a chicken hmmmmm, id probably still cut his hand of for wanting to torture something defenseless. Hes obviously a sick [censored] and needs to have 1 less hand to torture things with.

I don't see how it makes a difference. He is torturing the chicken by putting it in the microwave. He isn't killing it in the least painful way possible (chopping off its head). He isn't planning on eating it.

If you cut the guy's hand off, what species do you draw the line at? Does a mentally competent adult pouring salt on a banana slug or burning an insect to death with a magnifying glass qualify for hand removal?

You tell me.

Tough question - mammals for me in a nutshell. What animals do you personally find cute and likeable? (as that's clearly the determining factor in who lives or dies)

At first blush I felt it was a no brainer for me to choose hand loss, but certainly torturing an ant is not worthy of human maiming. Although the line is likely impossible to totally pin down, it does exist somewhere.

The fact that gleeful torture makes a big difference. If it was an innocent man losing a hand vs. death of a given animal, I would choose to save the human hand over the life of any animal.

This question is like baiting eco-[censored] with organic passion fruit juice.

What is max number of cats you microwave to save an African child dying of AIDS?

I'd go a lot further than chopping off this dude's hand to save the cat from being tortured. FWIW, I don't think this is close.

1a)Not sure. Probably wouldn't unless it was my own cat.
1b) I don't think my answer would change if it was a chicken (for the hand scenario) as long as his purpose was still to torture the chicken.
